Scouting- Request a Harvest

2024 UPDATE:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our fruitshare program's harvest capacity will be limited during the 2024 season. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate the changes to the program.

HARVEST PROTOCOL:

• Before scheduling a harvest, we'll send a scout to assess your tree, its location and accessibility, and appropriateness for FruitShare services. We scout every Monday between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and you can expect our scout to be on site at any time during these hours. We scout based on location so please note that you are signing up for a range of time during that particular Monday, but not a set time. Please plan accordingly.
• Please take care to sign up for a timely scout BEFORE your fruit is overripe. When scouting, we look at fruit load, ripeness, harvestability, accessibility, and our schedule. We cannot harvest trees (a) if a majority of the fruit is 20 feet or more into the tree’s canopy; or (b) if there is less than ¾ of the circumference accessible because of fences/garages/property lines/hazards/etc; (c) apple/pear/apricot with less than 150 lbs of fruit; plum/cherry/peach trees or grape vines with less
• If your fruit tree is deemed harvestable, we will send a confirmation email with the date and time of your scheduled harvest. If your tree is not harvestable, we will send an email stating why not, and/or add you to our back-up list, depending on the circumstances.

It is not possible for us to harvest every tree that we scout. If a tree harvest is your priority, make sure to select the GUARANTEED HARVEST level of giving to secure your harvest! This will guarantee an organized harvest event for your tree while supplying GULB with the needed resources to keep our FruitShare program running!

• *You are signing up for a time range to be scouted, not the specific time you click on. We scout every Monday from 9am-6pm.
• *For us to do our best job, trees should be under 20ft OR more than half of the branches are below 15ft
• *Remember that you do not need to be home for this scouting service so long as we have access to your tree through gates or yards with dogs.
• *The fallen fruit policy does not apply until your tree has been approved for harvesting. Scouting will not require fruit pick up, only harvest events need to have fallen fruit collected before harvests can take place.
• *Please clear all pet waste that would impede upon access to your property.
